FEMAP

Post by dbat »

Hello,

I have an interest to use the PE version with FEMAP. Before I consider purchasing, I would appreciate comments if this product supports FEMAP (v92 and v93).

If this product does work in FEMAP, would there be driver issues when there are active sessions of FEMAP and Mechanical Desktop v2007 on a Windows XP machine?

Thanks,

FEMAP

Hi dbat

Unfortunately FEMAP hasn't support for the 3Dconnexion devices. Please contact the editor of the program and ask for support.

Mechanical Desktop and most of Autodesk's applications have support for the 3Dconnexion navigation devices.

Was supported

Seams 3D connexion dropped the support for UGS/Femap.
It was listed a year ago on their supported page. See wayback machine http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www ... dcc/2c.php page. It is there end of 2006, but it is gone beginning of 2007.

Strangely I did find the support on that page in feb. 2007. I mailed them for support they told me it wasn't on there list. I mailed them back it was on the list. The mailed back they didn't look under UGS and that it was on the list but the support was done by UGS.
Then I mailed UGS, that replayed that they weren't on the supported list of applications. Same show, I mailed them the URL and they mailed back that they did not know. They would check....but I never heared from them again.

I still use it though once in a while. Zoom should be set to almost max, rotation to almost min. When running together there is a required start-up or Femap switches back to it's view from the start of the first 3Dconnextion-PE move, when you try to move with the mouse again.

When I asked a sales man at a presentation of UGS, he told me to go onto the forum because it would be the fasted way to solve the problem. It took me ~1 month of mailing before I got onto the forum. I just wanted to report the issue when I bumped into this discussion.

I just checked my mail, but UGS did reply that Femap 9.3 would have a better support of the Spacenavigator, but I'm still not able to install because of a customer requirement to do all calculations using 9.2.

So basically, if you already have it it is useable, but if you want to buy, take a more expensive one they do support.

Unless someone can tell me that Femap 9.3 and SpaceNavigator SE work like a breeze.

It's still on the list but now as NX Nastran for FEMAP.

So I don't see the 'we do not support' here.

Femap with NX Nastran in Version 9.3.1 is working very well. I am not aware of any problems at the moment.
