new SM pro user, but .xml ignorant

Post by mooshim »

I love this thing. The Spacemouse pro.

I'm dying to use it for Photoshop and other applications.

I plan also to use it in my less productive hobby, re: DCS A10c Flight Simulation.

I have seen many posts referring to a prior driver that once had a configuration function (?) that easily allowed for adding/editing profiles (?)

I gather, from my searches on the forum, that xml files can be used for this purpose--however I don't know whether there is still a necessity for this--given recent configuration software.

I would very much appreciate some information about this--as would a great deal of flight sim enthusiasts out there who are curious about this product.

Specific Questions:
1, Will I be able to use this SMouse Pro without having to toil through the creation of an .xml file?
2. Am I better off using the latest drivers or do the older drivers/config software available on this site more conducive to enabling the controller to act as a joystick?
3. Is there some kind person out there that would point me in the right direction to where I might begin to solve my problem?

Many thanks in advance,

Moosh

Hello mooshim -

You don't need to edit .xml files to use the Space Mouse Pro in Photoshop - it just needs to have the 3DxPhotoshop plugin installed. Run the 3DxWare installer again with Photoshop closed and choose Modify > Repair. You should see the 3DxPhotoshop.8li plugin in your Photoshop plugins folder.

You would need to edit .xml files to use the Space Mouse Pro as a joystick. Only the current driver - 3Dxware - has that ability. The previous driver type - 3DxSoftware - requires applications that support 3D devices and does not have the options available in 3Dxware.

This thread describes how to go about learning to work with the .xml profiles. There is a joystick template - but it needs to be edited manually.

The title of the thread refers to the 3DxWare 10 beta version but the same information applies to the current 3Dxware driver.
