Driver install not working

Post by mfranzen »

I have the Spacemouse Pro wireless unit and downloaded your latest driver (3DxWare64_v10-2-1_r1873.exe) for my windows 7 64 bit SP1 to install.
When I run the program it starts to extract the files somewhere but then that is it, nothing after that. My system pops up a user control box asking if the install program can make changes to the computer and I hit OK. First small window pops up then disappears, then a second window pops up a little larger, showing that it is extracting files and then the window disappears and nothing. Spacemouse receiver is plugged in, turn power switch on for Spacemouse pro, lights up with blue around puck and green indicator led at front of unit, then blue light shuts off.
I have tried this several times with a clean reboot, without my malware and antivirus program turned off, downloaded a second time the same driver 168,300 KB file as listed above with no luck.
I tried to find where the extracted files were extracting to with no luck either, as I thought maybe I can manually install it somehow.
I understand that there is software app, drivers, and a trainer to install but nothing is happening.
Any solutions? I noticed one person had similar issue in the forum with it not installing on their pc desktop but fine on their laptop: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=9773&p=37848&hilit=install#p37848

bump/Update:
Was able to extract the install files with winrar (learned that I could with a little research :) ) - it was double compressed.

Ran the setup and received a message via a system window titled Program Compatibility Assistant saying that this program might not have installed correctly giving me two options Reinstall using recommended settings OR This program installed correctly and also a cancel button. Tried both with no success.

The space mouse pro/receiver in the device manager under usb is still coming up as a generic usb hub. I have uninstalled it and when I plug the receiver for the space mouse pro, it installs it again as a generic usb hub again.

So I am still stuck, not sure what the driver/software is doing as it seems to not be installing correctly as I see nothing installed in the uninstall, change, or repair program window. I know it is suppose to be installing drivers which are not programs, but I was looking for any thing else it may have installed. So no sign that it has installed drivers at this point.
I startup SolidWorks for the possibility that the spacemouse only activates once a recognized application sees it, but nothing there either :(

Anyone have any ideas in the meantime while I keep trying. I have sent a request into tech services but no response as of yet.

As mentioned before, after I extracted the files from the self-extracting exe: 3DxWare64_v10-2-1_r1873.exe I ran the setup file which got me no where.
I also noticed another exe file named 3DxWare64.exe, so I tried running that and noticed it was also doing an extraction, then nothing. So I used Winrar again to extract the files out of 3DxWare64.exe and ended up with more folders, data files, etc. with another setup.exe (this time just the one executable setup.exe) and ran that. Ended up with the same issue - incompatible window popped up, so I tried both options with no success again. i.e. nothing happened after trying both options:
Reinstall using recommended settings OR This program installed correctly
and again nothing- no install, no errors, no message saying it was installed, it's like it just stopped after I started the setup program and then it just quit before installing anything as I look in what was installed last in the uninstall system window which shows no evidence of an install.

Help... Buler, Buler, Buler.... seriously, anyone? Why will this not install :x :? :?:

Great News :D
By luck I was able to figure out what the problem was in my situation.
I ran the computer in safemode and used a program safemsi to allow installs in safemode, then tried to install the Spacemouse pro driver/software. This would allow me to minimize services that might be causing my install problem.
Once I ran it, the program extracted no problem, but then a window popped up asking me to run TuneUp Utilities.... but it is not running and it service that normally runs is also disabled... so that was strange. I thought Ah Hah  maybe this is what is causing the program, but how, it's not running. Anyway I rebooted system with TuneUP Services and program not starting up in normal mode and then ran the Spacemouse pro driver/software install again and it did the same thing as above.

I sent TuneUp Utilities a Tech Question on this issue. While waiting I decided I would uninstall TuneUp Utilities and try to install Spacemouse pro, and it installed no problem this time :D :D :D
TuneUp Utilities tech later responded by asking me to uninstall and then re-install to solve the problem. They did not say they knew that it was their program but it sounded like they were pretty confident that if I did this that my install problem would be solved.

Anyway, diagnosed and solved my own problem to find out it was some kind of conflict with another software program - TuneUp Utilities, and as I suspected, that Spacemouse pro software/driver was not the issue.
