Switching between Inventor and Autocad windows causes crash

I am using Inventor 2010 and Autocad 2008. I frequently have both apps open at the same time. If I am using Inventor and I switch over to Autocad, it cause 3dxWare to crash very frequently. Not every time, but I rarely go more then 3 or 4 times of doing this without crashing. This then causes Inventor to become very sloooowwwww until I close and restart. Depending on how many graphic windows were open in Inventor at the time, it can take 5-10 minutes to close Inventor.

I can avoid the crash by switching to some other application (usually just windows explorer) in between Inventor and Autocad. But it's hard to remember to do this. Any thoughts? I just updated the 3dxWare software and got a crash on the first try.

When you say switching over to AutoCAD causes 3DxWare to crash, what do you experience? Does your hardware power down? Does your Windows operatings system get a stop error? Do you get someother kind of error. Does one of your applications develop a 'not responding error?'

What Windows Operating System are you using?

What are your machine specs?

Did you have a previous installation that was more successful?

Which of our devices are you using?

What happens is I’m using Inventor, I go down to the taskbar and click on the Autocad application. Then a message box pops up: “3DxWare: An unhandled exception occurred in your 3DxWare driver session, would you like to save a diagnostic file?” I usually say no. Then windows asks if I want to send them information about the problem, again I usually say no. But now, even if I restart the 3Dx driver, I need to have the driver running before I start Inventor in order for the device to work. So I have to close and restart Inventor as well. And Inventor is painfully slow until I get it restarted.

Did I have a previous installation that was more successful? Previous installation of which software, 3Dx, Inventor, or Autocad? I would say yes, because it didn’t always do this. But it’s been doing it for so long, I don’t recall exactly when it started. At least a year ago.

I am using a space explorer USB.

Hello tims,

Next time it crashes, please allow it to save the "diagnostic file" and send it to us. It lists the name and location of the file when it writes it.

Also, at that time, make a copy of your saved .scg files. And include them. I suspect one of them may be corrupt. Those are saved in %APPDATA%\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\profiles.

One of his scg files was corrupted. Deleting that file fixed the problem.
