SpaceMouse Wireless, 10.0.17 vs .16beta, 'Properties' ?

Post by sveinan »

I am totally new to 3Dconnexion devices. Just bought the new SpaceMouse Wireless to test out functionality in games and other stuff. Had from the forum gotten the impression that it was/is possible to map different axis'es per-application to simulate 2D mouse and joystick (Application Profiles). Not having an easy times trying to get things to work.

Downloaded the recommended/released 3DxWare 10.0.17 for SpaceMouse Wireless (my OS: Win7 64bit), installed it. The problem is, where do one configure 'Application Profiles' with .17 release ? If I start '3Dconnexion Properties' with .17, i get this little utility (3DxSmartUi.exe):
3dconnexion_pic01.gif
3dconnexion_pic01.gif (13.72 KiB) Viewed 4777 times
If I press 'Advanced Settings', it usually ends up with:
3dconnexion_pic02.gif
3dconnexion_pic02.gif (10.04 KiB) Viewed 4777 times
Only application that has worked with 'Advanced Settings' has been '3Dconnexion Viewer'. But options there do not look to have anything to do with 'Application Profiles'.

Now. Took a look at .16 beta release. Experimented with it on a clean Win7 64bit OS in a VMWare Workstation (USB passthrough for SpaceMouse Wirelesss). What I see there is that with .16 beta the '3Dconnexion Properties' goes to this utility (3DxConfig.exe):
3dconnexion_pic03.gif
3dconnexion_pic03.gif (48.25 KiB) Viewed 4777 times
A lot more like the stuff I was expecting. But why does '3Dconnexion Properties' go to different utilities in .17 (3DxSmartUi.exe) and .16 beta (3DxConfig.exe) ? 3DxConfig.exe does not exist in .17 install at all.

I did try to copy 3DxConfig.exe (& 3DxConfig.exe.config) from .16 beta install and use it on my physical machine installation. Is what the screenshot above is from. But when I try to assign/adjust any of the 'Advanced Motion' options on a profile. I get the 'Unhandled exception' dialog box, like screenshot further up.

Sooo. Am I looking in the wrong direction ? Is there another way with standard .17 installation to manipulate 'Application Profiles' ? Should I install .16 beta instead ? Point me in the right direction if I have missed something. Love to learn new stuff 8)

Hi sveinan,

the 3DxWare 10.0.17 is the release driver for the SpaceMouse Wireless. There is no possibility to change the mapping on the axis. We had this possibility for a while in a beta phase. Which is 3DxWare 10.0.16. But the development of this driver is stopped. We currently do not have plans to follow up on this.

The unhandled exception error you see is probably caused by the non-English system you are using. This will be fixed in the next driver relase. Which is to be expected soon. :-)

I do appreciate you taking time to answer UtaSH. Not the answer I was hoping for though :|

But before going into a deep depression  Guess I have to look at all possibilities. Will/is there any possibility for me, as end-user, to configure 'profile-like-stuff' of some sort with the new 3DxSmartUi.exe against 'unknown' applications ? Or will this logic be a closed system, possibly requiring SDK integration by each application vendor ?

BTW: If it is the case that end-user configuration of 'unknown' applications is taken away, starting with 10.0.17. I think 3Dconnexion is doing themselves, and their user-base, a big disservice. Is really a basic functionality of any advanced navigation peripheral like this. Hoping I am wrong though.

Hi sveinan,

you will have to stick with the beta version: 3DxWare 10.0.16. For further questions about the beta driver please use the 3DxWare 10 Beta forum.
