1603 Error on Install, tried everything in other posts.

Post by scyto »

I tried installing an older version (even though there wasn't a previous version on my machine *at all* ) the 64_v3-18-0_r1786 installed just fine.
None of the 64_v10-x worked (I tried 3-0_2161, 4-3_r2328 and 4-10_r2558 worked

What's frustrating is this is the first time I have tried my spacemouse navigator in maybe 2 years, I abandoned it at work as the drivers at that time required LUA to be disabled (a security and stability nightmare to do) and never could get installed. Now I try again at home on new PC and still can't install latest. What gives? I have made driver installation packages and crafted MSIs by hand... these MSI installers are terrible :-(

Error in install log (also attached):

I unpacked the drivers and attempted to install the manually.

This is the true OS level error and not MSI related as there is no MSI engine at this point:

Ok here is a fix for folks running Windows 10 x64 fast ring )this was on 170513-2252

[*]unplug you space whatever
[*]open device manager
[*]from the view menu choose 'by container'
[*]from the view menu choose 'show hidden device'

you will now see sever greyed out 'space navigator items:

[*]expand each one
[*]delete the HID device
[*]delete the USB device

keep doing this until they are all gone, note the uninstall of each node can take quote some time - be patient, once they are all removed reboot the machine and run the latest x64 installer, it may take uptyo 15 minutes to finish the device install

you will know if you have been successful if you open device manager with hidden device and by container - you will see a 3DX_KMJ_01 device.

[*]now plug in your space whatever
[*]reboot machine

now everything should work

good luck

alex

(my suspicion is the co-installer DLL is funky / poorly constructed (not that co-installers are good at any time - they are unavoidable)

I've encountered this very same issue with my Space Mouse Wireless. Treid everything:
  • Installing latest driver version, and all available older versions before it
Installing with USB cable plugged in and unplugged
Installing with USB wireless receiver plugged in and unplugged
    Uninstalling, re-installing
    Running as Administrator
The procedure suggested on this thread here
Things I haven't tried which may work: Re-installing Windows 10. Unfortunately now it's not a good time for me to do that as it would disrupt my work. Maybe in the future I will first try to install the drivers, and once I succeed I will consider purchasing this product again.

My system:
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with Intel Core i7 CPU and 8GB RAM
Windows 10 x64 with Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.19) (for some reason Windows 10 is not downloading updates even though it says "updates available")
I'm going to attempt to return the product even though I broke the box seal. I'm sure it's wonderful but I can't install, after spending over 6 hours trying to get it to work.
