C4D Delay when switching windows on multiple monitors

Post by panph »

Hi, I am using C4D in a 3 monitor configuration. The main monitor is the central one, while on the other i set 2 windows with the tools i need. When i click on something on the left or right screen, for example for select an object on the list (left screen), or to render the scene (right screen), the 3d connexion software detects as i am changing profile (C4d to Windows Explorer, and then again in C4d) and this cause a delay on the response of the mouse: it doesn't work for at least 6-7 seconds, then it detects the c4d profile and it works properly.
It happen every time i click on different monitor, and it's very uncomfortable. If i use a Single viewport on a single monitor the mouse works good, but i bought 3 monitors for this :D

how can i solve the problem? is there a method to "lock" the c4d profile?

see the attachment to understand my configuration

thank you!

Yes, you can lock C4D into focus while it is running. The driver will not switch to any other programs.
Add a Hard Grab to the C4D cfg file after the AppInfo section.

Code: Select all

...
  </AppInfo>
  <CfgProperties>
    <Grab>Hard</Grab>
  </CfgProperties>
  <Settings>
...

Sorry, i tried to look for the cfg file, but i wasn't able to do that... where i could find that file?
Are you talking about cfg file of c4d (so C:/programfile/Maxon... etc) or 3dxwave (C:/programfile/3dconnexion etc..)?

3DxWare: Program Files/3Dconnexion/3DxWinCore64/Cfg. There are several c4d cfg files depending on which version you have. You can see which one the driver is using by hovering over the 3Dx systray icon.

I found it... but when i try to save the file with the new strings, it tells me "access denied"... even with dreamweaver or block notes...
i tried even to stop the 3dxconnection process by the task manager, but same error :(

You need admin privileges to write into that directory. And just use notepad so the editor doesn't add any formatting.
If you don't have admin privileges, tell me, and I'll see if you can add it to your file in %APPDATA% which you do have access to.

ok! i've added the strings.. now "it works", i mean that it doesn't change the profile, but the lag of the mouse is still the same.

i've done a short video... see at this link: https://youtu.be/CECccQ0B2cU
it should be visible in few minutes

I've installed a demo copy of C4D Prime. It switches very fast (1 second) for me but I have nothing loaded and only one window.
Can you tell me what the other windows are that you have on your other screens?
Please contact tech-support so you can send files to us (open a support ticket). I want to see a log file of your driver activity.
Of course, install the latest v10.4.4 3DxWare before doing anything.

first of all, Thank you for your help :D
I've reinstalled the lastest version of the 3dware, nothing has changed.. as you can see on the attachment, on my central screen i have the work viewport, on the left screen i have the "item list", the properties of the selected item, materials list, take list and the Octane render settings. On the other side, right screen i have the Octane Live viewer. But it doesn't matter what i have in the windows, IF i have another window the driver of the spacemouse delays.
As you can see in the top of the windows, the one in the center screen is "active" (the text CINEMA 4D R17...... is black), while the other are gray, so inactive (Oggetti (object) on the left, and Live Viewer on the right). When i click one of those windows the driver delays as you can see in my previous video.

I'll contact the tech service right now :wink: where could i find the logfile? i set "write logfile" on the 3dware option..
